Wired’s always been the most amazingly progressive magazine around. Sometimes its over-the-top design has been annoying. Sometimes its predictions for the future have been idiotic.

When they try to be funny they never are, and they’re not half as cool, hip or whatever it is they fancy themselves, as they think they are.

But when they just get out of the way and let their best authors write, the things they say, the things they cover, are fascinating. Now they’re trying to define the future of publishing.

They’re already radical in many ways, linking a great site to a great magazine, making all that information free on the web, including the magazine. And somehow continuing to thrive and grow.

And now this. Wired, Adobe, and the iPad. The future just keeps getting more interesting. And we’re in it.

Watch it again. Make sure to go full screen. Is it really as big an innovation as going from radio to television? So they claim. So we doubt.

It’s cool, it’s fancy, but television was flat out amazing, and when you get down to it, the coolest thing about Wired is the stories, and the stories are mostly words, and you have to read them. Nothing special about that.

Except for the fact that you’re reading them on a computer on your lap under a tree in a park.
